Brigitte Gabriel is a world class expert on terrorism and the threat of Islamic extremism. She is also a personal friend and I encourage all to hear her and take her warnings seriously. Ignoring such will be at our peril

Arizonans will be grateful for some extra help from the National Guard, starting Sunday, in protecting the border and fighting drug violence — especially now that a federal judge has blocked key parts of their recent illegal-immigration law. But there’s a more pressing border issue that goes beyond Arizona: the alliance between drug cartels and groups that aim to smuggle terrorists into our country through the Mexican border.
Last week’s detonation along the Texas-Mexico border of an Improvised Explosive Device similar to those used in Iraq and Afghanistan strongly suggests that Hezbollah is working with the drug cartels — and that America is unsafe. Law-enforcement officials and intelligence analysts believe that terrorist groups like al Qaeda have been working with such gangs as the ruthless MS-13 to smuggle terrorists into America.

I am the son of Lebanese immigrants. Some relatives could not get in and had to go to South America and many went to Mexico. The Hispanic people are some of the most religious, hard working and honorable people I’ve known.
Lawless immigration is not about the people. It’s about protecting the nation. The blame for the immigration, to a great degree rests with Mexico. Would the Hispanics come to America if their economilc life was better in Mexico?
We present many conferences on human trafficking with important speakers. We have been informed that many of the young girls coming across the boarder are being lured into pornography because of their poverty. Other girls are raped by the traffickers. Many human trafficking victims are brought into the U.S. through Mexico because the border is so porous. Terrorists are assuming Hispanic names and coming through the boarder
The immigration issue is NOT just about people wanting a better life. It’s about protecting America. It’s about protecting those Hispanic immigrants who want a better life. Ignoring and not protecting the border threatens the immigrants and America.
In light of the recent passage of the Arizona law regarding identification and the recent confirmation of the Los Angeles Police Department’s SPECIALORDER 40, I find it important to re-release a position statement regarding SPECIALORDER 40 which was originally distributed in 2004.

9-18-04 TO: Members of the Los Angeles Task Force on Human Trafficking and Child Prostitution
Los Angeles Police Commission
Los Angeles City Council As a result of a motion by Councilman Cardenas and passed by the City Council, the Commission on the Status of Women was directed to form a task force regarding the subject of human trafficking and child prostitution.
As a member of this Task Force I was made aware of an LAPD policy which gives me great concern as it potentially and negatively affects local and national security, That policy is: “…not to ask about legal status unless reasonable grounds exist…”
In a recent Time Magazine issue the problem of “porous borders” is of the most severe threat to our security.
“Law enforcement authorities believe the mass movement of illegals, where ever they are from, offers the perfect cover for terrorists seeking
to enter the U.S. especially since tighter controls have been imposed at airports.” Time Magazine

Consequently, this “policy” is very concerning for several reasons:
2. Terrorists may be using illegals to unknowingly transport explosives/destructive devices (even nuclear) or even duping the illegals to become unknowing suicide bombers. Consider that the illegals coming to America have no documentation and no trace from where they come. If they aren’t duped then they may be forced by threats against themselves or their families.
How vulnerable would be the illegals just trying to seek work if they were paid by the terrorists to transport the deadly cargo (unknown to them) and even receive payment for, unknown to them, the suicide mission? Terrorists have the money. The illegals are looking for pay of only dollars per day. How tempting of an offer could the terrorists make?
We do well to keep in mind that some of the 911 hijackers were not aware they were on a suicide mission.
“The U.S. ‘s borders, rather than becoming more secure since 911,
have grown even more porous. And the trend has accelerated in the
past year…Who are these new arrivals? While the vast majority are
Mexicans, a small but sharply growing number come from other
countries including those with large populations hostile to the U.S.”
Time Magazine

3. It is very easy for terrorists from other countries to blend with the traditional illegals from Mexico because the physiological characteristics of extremists/terrorists are similar to the traditional profile of the illegal (although now they most likely are trying to recruit those of a different profile). Nevertheless, it would be easy for them to blend in with the illegal population crossing the border or being the coyote or the destination recipients of the illegals.
Possible scenario: An illegal is strapped with an explosive (powerful bombs can be very small to wear). The illegal is given a story that either makes them willing to carry the package whether it is worn as a vest or carry a package/present into a public place with high intensity of people e.g mall at Christmas. This explosive can be remotely detonated. If they detonate, the illegal has no trace. To the terrorists, no loss. If the illegal is caught and the bomb disarmed (unlikely if they are planning to remotely detonate) there is no trail to the terrorists because the illegal is on a “one way trip” and the terrorists did not give correct names to the illegals, etc.
(Recently, airport security has announced that more intense screening of outer clothing will be conducted.)
4. Human trafficking is, in great part, inventoried via illegals. For the officers on the street to pass by an opportunity to question and investigate a possible illegal potentially exacerbates the problem of trafficking as well as the threat to our local and national security.
Everytime I have been stopped by a patrol officer while driving, he always asked for my identification. 5. Trafficking of women and children for commercial and/or private sexual exploitation is being revealed for what it is i.e. insidious enslavement (regardless of the means). Consequently, the necessity to “free the LAPD” is paramount to reasons previously presented that precipitated the policy of not inquiring about legal status.
6. I am confident that there are other policies that are “handcuffing” not only LAPD but a variety of law enforcement agencies. I suggest a review of these related policies. That they be changed or eliminated. We need to focus on the two primary concerns i.e. trafficking and victimization of women and children as well as the great concern of domestic/national security.
